Summary

The ITEMAS Platform and the Pfizer Foundation are announcing the Pfizer Foundation Award for the Best Health Innovation Project, aimed at recognizing and supporting innovative initiatives developed in hospitals and health research institutes affiliated with ITEMAS’s Units and Associated Units.
The call for proposals aims to promote projects with the potential to impact the National Health System (SNS), particularly those focused on:
• Facilitating the diagnosis of diseases.
• Improve treatment adherence.
• Promote information, monitoring, and understanding of medical conditions.
Priority will be given to projects with a minimum level of technological maturity equivalent to TRL 5, especially those that already have a prototype or pilot test.
In addition to institutional recognition, this call for proposals represents an opportunity to highlight innovative projects with the potential for real-world implementation and scalability in the healthcare sector.

 

Requirements:

Projects that meet the following criteria are eligible to participate:

  • They must be led by professionals from hospitals or health research institutes affiliated with ITEMAS.
  • In the case of Affiliated Units, please have the signed membership agreement on hand before submitting your application.
  • Please present innovative solutions with the potential to impact the National Health System (SNS).
  • Ideally, you should have a prototype or pilot test.
  • Be aligned with one of the objectives of the call for proposals:
    • Diagnosis
    • Therapeutic Adherence
    • Information and Knowledge About Diseases

 

Assessment Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Alignment with the call’s objective.
  • Potential impact on the National Health System.
  • Feasibility and Future Implementation.
  • Scalability.
  • Innovative and disruptive nature.
  • Collaboration or integration with other ISCIII platforms (SCReN, Biomodels, and Biobanks).

 

Prize Amount

The winning project will receive:

  • A cash prize of €4,000 awarded by the Pfizer Foundation.
  • Opportunity to apply for a scholarship for a 2-week stay in Boston as part of Richi Social Entrepreneurs’ international immersion program, valued at €10,000.

The visit will allow the team to:

  • Connect with the international health innovation ecosystem.
  • Develop the project’s development strategy.
  • Gain access to mentors, contacts, and specialized knowledge.

The scholarship does not cover travel, lodging, or living expenses.

In addition, the finalist projects will receive support from the Pfizer Foundation to increase their visibility within the innovation ecosystem through participation in events and outreach activities.

 

Submission and Application Deadline.

The application deadline is June 19, 2026.
