Purpose of the Call for Proposals

The purpose of this call for proposals is for the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (hereinafter, the Foundation) to award grants to high-quality cancer research projects related to the strategic areas identified by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (hereinafter, the Association): palliative care, epidemiology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology, carried out under the supervision of a principal investigator. These projects must be conducted entirely in Spain and must be strategic projects for the Association and for cancer patients.

This call for proposals is designed for research projects led by a principal investigator. In exceptional cases and when duly justified, the participation of another principal investigator with an associated budget will be accepted. For collaborative projects, we recommend consulting the call for proposals “Grants for General Projects; Collaborative Category.”

Requirements

Any group leader applying for this call for applications must:

  • Hold a Ph.D.
  • Be contractually affiliated with a public or private nonprofit organization in Spain that is qualified to conduct scientific research. The research project must be carried out at that organization, which must be specified in the application.
  • Applicants must have at least two research articles published or accepted for publication as the last author or corresponding author in a peer-reviewed, first-quartile international scientific journal at the time of application. Publications dated after the application submission date will not be accepted. Only original research articles will be considered; therefore, reviews, book chapters, or patents will not be counted.

Features of the Proposal

The research project must have a clear translational component, supported by a solid foundation of basic research that underpins the hypothesis presented in the proposal.
This call for applications will cover the Association’s strategic areas: palliative care, epidemiology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology.

In all cases, a description must be provided of the reasons why this project is strategic for the Association and for cancer patients.
