Purpose

In this call for proposals, the Ramón Areces Foundation announces the awarding of grants to fund original research projects lasting three years that advance scientific knowledge and contribute to technological progress and the advancement of our society.

Priority Areas

For the purposes of this Call for Proposals, each research team may submit only one proposal, indicating the subject area in which it wishes to compete. The proposal must fall within one of the following priority areas:

— Rare Diseases
— Personalized Therapy, Immunotherapy, and Cancer
— Infection: Early Warning, Prevention, and Treatment
— Aging and Neurodegenerative Diseases
— Intercellular Communication and the Interactome: Pathological Implications
— Food Biotechnology
— Climate Change and Renewable Energy
— New Materials: Fundamentals and Applications

In awarding this grant, the Foundation will give preference to applications in which young Spanish researchers—who do not have ample funding resources—serve as principal investigators, provided that the grant can provide a significant boost to the development of their research areas.

Submission Deadline

The application period will run from March 16 to April 20, 2026. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

Amount and Duration

The maximum amount requested must not exceed €160,000 for all of the three-year project duration

Requirements and Applications

Eligibility Requirements

Research teams conducting their work in Spain at the same institution, under the direction of a Principal Investigator (PI), may apply for research grants under this call for proposals. However, a researcher from another institution—whether domestic or foreign—may be part of the team if they are responsible for a specific task, provided that such participation is adequately justified in the project proposal.

In any case, only the Center to which the IP is affiliated will be responsible for administering the funds awarded.

Researchers who are currently receiving or have received a grant from the Ramón Areces Foundation as principal investigator within the last four years are not eligible to apply for this call for proposals.

Submission of Applications

Applications must be submitted using an online form created for this purpose, which will be available on the Ramón Areces Foundation’s website once the application period opens.
