Call for Proposals Summary

The objective of this call for proposals is to fund research projects aimed at both fostering the generation and significant advancement of scientific knowledge and high-quality research, and at advancing the search for solutions to societal challenges. In addition, funding may be provided for activities aimed at training pre-doctoral researchers through the completion of a doctoral dissertation associated with the aforementioned research projects.

These grants will fund the following types of projects:

  • Non-Targeted Research” Projects. These are projects without a predefined thematic focus, and their primary objective is to advance knowledge, regardless of the time frame or scope of application.
  • Applied Research” Projects. These projects are aimed at solving specific problems and are linked to thematic priorities associated with major societal challenges (including health).

Within the categories listed above, projects may fall into two types, depending on the profile of the principal investigator (hereinafter PI) leading the research team:

  • Type A projects, led by young researchers.
  • Type B projects, led by established researchers. Type B projects include:
    • RTA-type projects, falling under the “Oriented Research” category, led by entities that are part of the INIA (CSIC)-CCAA system, as well as those projects whose objectives are aimed at the diagnosis and control of pests and diseases—in both plant and animal species—that have been detected on Spanish territory for the first time in the last three years.

Initiatives aimed at training pre-doctoral researchers (PRE-DOCTORAL GRANTS) are intended to fund activities designed to train new doctoral graduates through the completion of a doctoral dissertation associated with a research project funded under this call for proposals, including funding for the costs of hiring pre-doctoral researchers, stays at R&D centers, and tuition fees associated with doctoral studies. Furthermore, these grants include a postdoctoral orientation period (POP) intended for the professional development and specialization of these researchers, for a maximum period of 12 months, provided that the doctoral degree is obtained during the project’s implementation period.
