Features
Funding from the International Myeloma Society (IMS) and the Paula and Rodger Riney Foundation supports translational research projects on multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders. Their goal is to advance findings that can be translated into clinical practice, thereby improving the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of these diseases. It is essential that the project have a clear translational focus and a result that is potentially applicable in clinical practice; basic research on myeloma alone is not sufficient.
Translational research projects are accepted in all areas of plasma cell disorders, particularly multiple myeloma. The research areas considered include:
-
Development of biomarkers and methods for diagnosis or early detection.
-
New molecular and imaging techniques.
-
Development and evaluation of drugs or biological agents.
-
Identification of new therapeutic targets using human biological samples, including those from clinical trials.
-
Preclinical or clinical research with the potential to change the way myeloma is prevented, diagnosed, or treated.
The project must have an initial duration of 12 months, although an extension for an additional year may be requested on an exceptional basis. Funding covers personnel expenses, laboratory supplies, services, and travel. Inventory items are not permitted unless their necessity is specifically justified. Funding ranging from 175,000 USD to 250,000 USD per project.
Requirements:
-
Principal Investigator (PI) Profile: The PI must be a university professor (faculty member) or an established researcher with an MD and/or PhD.
-
Research experience: We are seeking a researcher with a proven track record. Researchers from other fields who wish to focus their research on myeloma are also encouraged to apply.
-
IMS Membership: The principal investigator or one of the co-investigators must be a member of the International Myeloma Society.
-
Acknowledgment Requirement: Publications and presentations resulting from this grant must acknowledge the IMS and the Paula and Rodger Riney Foundation as sources of funding.
-
Translational impact: The proposal must explain how its results can be translated into clinical practice.
Women and researchers from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to submit applications
