Description and Objective
The Scholarship Program Pasqual Maragall Researchers Program (PMRP) funds outstanding research projects on Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
The objectives are to promote and support translational or clinical research projects on Alzheimer’s disease or other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. The PMRP will provide funding of up to 800,000 € for individual or collaborative research projects to be carried out over a maximum period of five years.
Applications
Principal investigators of individual research projects or coordinators of collaborative research project consortia must hold a position as an independent researcher at a public or nonprofit research organization in Spain.
In the case of collaborative research projects, the other members of the consortium (principal investigators in the consortium) may be affiliated with a public or nonprofit research organization anywhere in the world.

Eligibility Criteria
The application process for grants under the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Program (PMRP) consists of two phases:
- Phase 1: Submission of an Expression of Interest (EOI).
- Phase 2: Submission of a complete proposal, by invitation only.
The entire project application, review, and selection process will be conducted in English; therefore, all information must be submitted in that language. Applications must be submitted via this link. Please read the “Submission Guidelines” document carefully before beginning the application.
Call for Applications Timeline
The key dates for the 2026 call for applications for the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Program (PMRP) are:
- September 14, 2026, 10:00 a.m. CEST: Opening of the application system for submitting the EI.
- October 22, 2026, 3:00 p.m. CEST: Deadline for submitting the EI.
- February 2027: Announcement of the results of the call for proposals and invitation to submit full proposals.
- April 2027: Deadline for submitting the complete proposal (by invitation only).
- July 2027: Notification of the results of the complete proposals to the applicants.
- To be confirmed: public announcement of the results.

Selection Process
The review process for both the EI and the full proposals consists of three phases: administrative review, scientific review, and strategic review.
- The Strategic Research Funding team conducts an administrative review to ensure that only complete applications that meet all eligibility criteria are evaluated by the Evaluation Committee and the Selection Committee.
- The Evaluation Committee is composed of experts of internationally recognized standing in their respective fields. Its role is to evaluate and score the applications in accordance with the call for proposals’ evaluation criteria (detailed in the document“Evaluation Procedure”) and to report the results of the evaluation to the Selection Committee.
- In addition to the evaluation criteria, the Selection Committee of the Pasqual Maragall Researchers Program (PMRP) assesses how well the proposals align with the Pasqual Maragall Foundation’s strategic plan and the PMRP’s priorities. Members of the Selection Committee may include the Foundation’s director, management consultants, faculty members, and members of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Foundation’s research center, as well as experts of recognized international standing in their fields.
Expressions of interest that receive the most favorable evaluation will be invited to submit a full proposal.
The proposals that receive the most favorable evaluations will be invited to sign a grant agreement with the Pasqual Maragall Foundation.
