Many metabolites that can be detected in body fluids have increasing diagnostic and prognostic value in a wide range of diseases.
The IBSAL clinical metabolomics platform aims to strengthen this area of research and clinical support.
Description
The clinical metabolomics platform aims to provide research groups—both at IBSAL and from outside the institute— with the ability to analyze bile acid profiles in biological samples (blood, bile, urine, tissues, and cell cultures), with the goal of expanding the range of analyzable molecules in the future.
To this end, IBSAL has the IIMD-08 research group —Experimental Hepatology and Drug Delivery (HEVEPHARM)—led by Principal Investigator Dr. José Juan García Marín.

- 1200 Series HPLC system consisting of a quadruple pump with a vacuum degasser (model G12354A), a 20-μl-capacity injector (model G1328B), a programmable, variable-wavelength ultraviolet/visible detector (model G1314B), and a temperature-controlled column (Agilent Technologies)
- Triple Quadrupole Mass Detector (Model G6410A) coupled to a 6000 Series Atmospheric Pressure Ionization (API) source (Model G1948B)
- Eppendorf 5417R and 5810R refrigerated centrifuges (Hamburg, Germany).
- Stratagene Picofugas (VWR International Eurolab).
- MassHunter Data Acquisition from Agilent Technologies (Santa Clara, U.S.).
