Purpose and Objectives of the Call for Proposals

The purpose of this call for proposals is to provide financial support from the Scientific Foundation of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (hereinafter, the Foundation) to high-quality research projects focused on the biology and medicine of cancer prevention, which are conducted entirely in Spain and are of interest to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (hereinafter, the Association) and to cancer patients.

All administrative procedures related to the call for applications will be carried out through the Foundation’s Grant Management System (hereinafter, the GMS platform), where all associated documentation can be found.

Requirements

The principal investigator applying for this call for proposals must:
— Hold a doctoral degree (PhD).
— Be contractually affiliated with a public or private nonprofit organization accredited for scientific research in Spain. The research project must be carried out at that organization, which must be specified in the application.
— Have at least two research articles published or accepted for publication as the last author or corresponding author in an international peer-reviewed scientific journal ranked in the first quartile at the time of application. Publications dated after the application submission date will not be accepted. Only original research will be considered; reviews, book chapters, and patents will not be included.

Features of the Proposal

Proposals should focus on areas of research that deepen our understanding of the biology and medicine of cancer prevention. The goal is to understand the biological mechanisms and etiology of cancer in order to develop precision prevention interventions. Topics may include epidemiology, risk factors, incidence and its modification, survival, and cancer prevention strategies. Proposals must focus on primary prevention. Proposals aimed at secondary or tertiary prevention fall outside the scope of this call for proposals.

Proposals must provide evidence and consider the long-term sustainability of the project, including regulatory aspects that will facilitate its future implementation. In all cases, a description must be provided explaining why the project is of interest to the Association and to cancer patients.
