Summary

Grants intended to fund stays for healthcare professionals and researchers from the Spanish National Health System (SNS) to learn or refine techniques, technologies, or procedures in research, development, and technological innovation in the field of biomedicine at prestigious national or international institutions.

Subsidized stays must take place at a single facility, begin in 2027, and may not be split into separate periods.

 

Requirements

Requirements for applicants:

Only public and private nonprofit healthcare entities affiliated with or contracted by the Spanish National Health System (SNS) that provide clinical care may participate.

The facility where the residency will take place—whether in Spain or abroad—must be different from the applying facility, and this must be specified in the application.

Candidate requirements:

Individuals who meet any of the following criteria may apply as candidates:

  • Healthcare professionals who are principal investigators on health research projects or international joint programming or international collaboration projects awarded through the AES’s 2023, 2024, and 2025 calls for proposals.
  • Research staff who have secured permanent positions following the completion of the I3 SNS, I3, and Miguel Servet Type II programs .

In all cases, applicants must be employed by the beneficiary entities as civil servants, statutory employees, permanent contract employees, or temporary employees; in all cases, they must be on active duty throughout the entire period between the application deadline and the end of the stay. In the case of temporary employment, applicants must provide proof of at least six months’ tenure in that position.

The following are not eligible for the grants:

  • Research trainees (pre-doctoral researchers) or those currently participating in the FSE program.
  • Professionals who have received a Mobility Grant for Healthcare Professionals and Researchers in the Spanish National Health System (M-BAE) awarded in the 2023, 2024, or 2025 call for applications.

 

Application

Applications and all other required documentation must be submitted exclusively through the ISCIII’s online portal.

The application forms will require only the signature of the legal representative of the applicant entity, who will collect the signatures of the other interested parties and be responsible for their safekeeping and authenticity.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documentation:

The following are an integral part of the application:

  • Abridged Curriculum Vitae (CVA) in Spanish or English, automatically generated by the FECYT curriculum editor or by any institution certified under the FECYT CVN standard that offers the CVA-ISCIII service, for the candidate.
  • A report on the proposed activity to be carried out during the stay, written in Spanish or English, using exclusively the standardized form corresponding to AES 2026.

In addition, the applications must be accompanied by (documentation that can be corrected):

  • Report from the host institution to which the professional is applying, stating its acceptance. This report must specify the duration of the candidate’s assignment (including, in all cases, the exact start and end dates of their stay at the facility), the nature of the assignment, and whether they will receive financial compensation for it.
  • Full text of selected publications, if they are not open access.
  • Copy of valid passport, only in the case of foreign citizens not residing in Spanish territory.
  • A joint affidavit signed by the candidate and the legal representative of the institution to which the professional belongs, using the standard form, stating the following:
    • The type of employment relationship (statutory, civil service, or labor contract), length of service at the facility, and, in the case of temporary employment, the expected end date or the likelihood that the professional will continue working there.
    • Reasons justifying the permission and the importance of the action for the school.
