In <\/strong>the Oncology category, the foundation will support the project led by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/185\">Jos\u00e9 Manuel Mu\u00f1oz F\u00e9lix<\/a>, principal investigator of the <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/grupos\/133\/investigadores\">CARD-09<\/a> group \u2014Therapeutic Modulation of Blood Vessels in IBSAL Pathology \u2014and a full professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Salamanca<\/strong>, which aims to develop new strategies to combat the increase in metastasis associated with certain chemotherapy treatments.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposal, titled <strong>\u201cDefining New Strategies to Combat the Increase in Metastasis Following Chemotherapy<\/strong>, <strong>\u201d<\/strong> has been selected by a committee of independent experts for its innovative nature, the strength of the research team, its high potential for clinical application, and the impact its results could have on the treatment of cancer patients.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This study aims to advance our understanding of the mechanisms involved in tumor progression and to develop strategies targeting the extracellular matrix in order to counteract this adverse effect of chemotherapy and combat treatment resistance.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jos\u00e9 Manuel Mu\u00f1oz emphasized that the support received from the Alimerka Foundation \u201cprovides a vital boost to move forward with the next phases of the project and strengthen the team\u2019s research capacity in the search for more effective and safer cancer treatments.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<div Excellence<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fifth edition of this call <strong>for proposals<\/strong> received <strong>25 submissions from 21 organizations across Spain<\/strong>, including hospitals, universities, and research institutes. <strong>Thirteen entries<\/strong> were submitted in the Oncology category, from which the research project led by Jos\u00e9 Manuel Mu\u00f1oz was selected. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the Alimerka Foundation has recognized, in the nutrition category of this call for research proposals <strong>,<\/strong> the project led by <strong>Celia Toyos Rodr\u00edguez, a researcher at INCAR-CSIC<\/strong>, which focuses on monitoring malnutrition in the adult population.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About the Call for Applications<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selection of the recipient initiatives was carried out by a committee of experts with extensive experience in biomedicine, biosciences, and agri-food sciences, ensuring the independence, scientific rigor, and technical quality of the evaluation process.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this fifth call for proposals, the Alimerka Foundation has now allocated 210,000 euros to support research groups in its immediate vicinity, thereby reinforcing its commitment to generating knowledge and supporting scientific initiatives that help address some of the major health
