{"id":24326,"date":"2025-06-05T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/the-4th-ibsal-scientific-conference-will-bring-together-300-researchers-to-advance-excellence-and-promote-the-work-of-researchers-in-training\/"},"modified":"2026-08-04T12:53:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T10:53:31","slug":"the-4th-ibsal-scientific-conference-will-bring-together-300-researchers-to-advance-excellence-and-promote-the-work-of-researchers-in-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/en\/the-4th-ibsal-scientific-conference-will-bring-together-300-researchers-to-advance-excellence-and-promote-the-work-of-researchers-in-training\/","title":{"rendered":"The 4th IBSAL Scientific Conference will bring together 300 researchers to advance excellence and promote the work of researchers in training"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At the meeting, which will take place on June 10 at the Castilla y Le\u00f3n Exhibition and Convention Center, the annual report and the main support platforms of the Salamanca Institute of Biomedical Research will be presented, and the national open science strategy will be discussed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The young researchers who will participate in this important scientific event have submitted 73 papers, eight of which will be presented as oral presentations and another 40 as posters.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nearly 300 researchers from <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/es\/\">the Salamanca Biomedical Research Institute<\/a> (IBSAL)\u2014the Department of Health of the Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n, the University of Salamanca (USAL), and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)\u2014will participate in the <strong>4th Scientific Conference<\/strong> organized by the institute to advance scientific excellence, promote communication, facilitate interactions and synergies, and publicize the work being carried out by the institute\u2019s trainee researchers.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This fourth edition, to be held <strong>on June 10 at the Castilla y Le\u00f3n Convention and Exhibition Center,<\/strong> will begin with the Young Researchers\u2019 Conference and the presentation of the eight projects selected from among the <strong>73 submitted by the Institute\u2019s graduate students<\/strong>. Another 40 will be presented in poster format. Following a welcome address by IBSAL\u2019s scientific director, <strong>Luis Garc\u00eda Ortiz<\/strong>, <strong>Mart\u00edn G\u00f3mez Redondo<\/strong> will introduce the predoctoral community and will also moderate the oral presentations by his colleagues.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alba Torres Valle, Enrique Jim\u00e9nez Madrona, Mar\u00eda Mart\u00ednez Fern\u00e1ndez, Joana del Valle Mercado Hern\u00e1ndez, Luc\u00eda Fern\u00e1ndez Fr\u00edas, Araceli Sama Barroso, Yoan Reynaldo Torres Cruz, and Sara Mar\u00eda Vicente Gabriel will be responsible for presenting their work, which addresses a variety of highly topical scientific issues within each of IBSAL\u2019s research areas: Cancer; Cardiovascular, Renal, and Respiratory Diseases; Neuroscience; Infectious, Inflammatory, and Metabolic Diseases; Gene and Cell Therapy and Transplants; and Primary Care, Public Health, and Pharmacology.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will be followed by the official opening of the Scientific Conference, at which <strong>Sonia Mart\u00edn P\u00e9rez<\/strong>, Director General of Health Planning, Research, and Innovation for the Regional Government of Castile and Le\u00f3n, and <strong>Jos\u00e9 Miguel Mateos Roco<\/strong>, Vice Rector for Research and Technology Transfer at the University of Salamanca, will join Luis Garc\u00eda Ortiz, who will present the <strong>Institute\u2019s 2024 annual report<\/strong> and outline the significant challenges on the horizon.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/evento\/iv-jornada-cientifica-del-ibsal\/\">comprehensive program<\/a> also includes presentations on some of the <strong>most notable national projects coordinated by IBSAL<\/strong>, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/proyectos\/115925\">Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approach to Renal Fragility<\/a>; the <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/en\/national-megaproject-to-improve-the-management-of-myelodysplastic-syndromes-through-the-use-of-artificial-intelligence-and-patient-experience\/\">UMBRELLA-SUMMA Legacy<\/a> project to improve the management of myelodysplastic syndromes through the use of artificial intelligence and patient experience; and the <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.es\/en\/pioneering-trial-to-treat-relapsed-multiple-myeloma-patients-with-a-novel-academic-car-t\/\">clinical trial on CARTemis-1<\/a> to treat patients with relapsed multiple myeloma. Similarly, the conference will be used to showcase the <strong>Institute\u2019s support platforms<\/strong>, including those for Clinical Epidemiology and Methodology, REDCap, Bioinformatics, Clinical Trials, Biomodels, and Biobanks. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planned agenda is rounded out with a roundtable discussion on the <strong><em>National Science Strategy and Research Evaluation<\/em><\/strong> moderated by <strong>\u00c1ngeles Almeida<\/strong>, deputy scientific director of IBSAL, with the participation of <strong>Pilar Rico Castro<\/strong>, head of the Open Science Unit at FECYT; <strong>Paula Adam Bernad,<\/strong> Director of the Research Laboratory at the Catalan Agency for Health Quality and Assessment (AQuAS); and <strong>Pilar Gayoso Diz<\/strong>, Deputy Director General at the Carlos III Health Institute, who will also close this 4th IBSAL Scientific Conference.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IBSAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL) was established on March 21, 2011 through an agreement signed by the Ministry of Health of the Regional Government of Castilla y Le\u00f3n and the University of Salamanca, which was joined in February 2012 by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). It integrates and coordinates the biosanitary research carried out at the University Hospital of Salamanca, the Primary Care Management of Salamanca and the biosanitary area of the University of Salamanca, including the Institute of Neurosciences of Castilla y Le\u00f3n and the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its scientific activity is organized into six areas, comprising a total of 85 research groups: Cancer (23 groups); Cardiovascular, Renal, and Respiratory (11); Neuroscience (12); Infectious, Inflammatory, and Metabolic Diseases (19); Gene and Cell Therapy and Transplants (6); and Primary Care, Public Health, and Pharmacology
