To date, <strong>137 patients have participated<\/strong> in some of the modalities offered, and the program will be operational throughout 2025 thanks to funding obtained from various private sources. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>This intervention, unique so far in the province, has meant a significant advance in health care for people with cancer, with excellent results of acceptance and efficacy. The project is coordinated by <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/2294\">Juan Luis S\u00e1nchez Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/2295\">Carlos Mart\u00edn S\u00e1nchez<\/a>, <strong>IBSAL <\/strong>researchers and physiotherapists from the <strong>Colegio Profesional de Fisioterapeutas de Castilla y Le\u00f3n (CPFCyL)<\/strong>, and has already implemented six adapted exercise programs in less than a year. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A collaborative model between professionals and science<\/strong><br\/><\/h5>\n\n<p>The program has the support and direct involvement of health professionals from the Hematology and Oncology services of the <strong>University Health Care Complex of Salamanca (CAUSA)<\/strong>, as well as research groups from the <strong>University of Salamanca (USAL)<\/strong> and the <strong>Institute of Biomedical Research of Salamanca (IBSAL)<\/strong>, which reinforces its scientific and rigorous nature.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The following research teams, among others, are participating:<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physiotherapy, functional recovery and therapeutic exercise &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/1838\">Dr. Roberto M\u00e9ndez S\u00e1nchez.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study on the predisposition and treatment of solid tumors &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/302\">Dr. Emilio Fonseca S\u00e1nchez.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevention and Early Intervention in Mental Health (PRINT) &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/2285\"> Dr. Jes\u00fas P\u00e9rez S\u00e1nchez-Toledo<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Functional Proteomics and Nanomedicine &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/333\">Dr. Manuel Fuentes Garc\u00eda<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hematopoiesis and Advanced Therapies &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/198\"> Dr. Ferm\u00edn S\u00e1nchez-Guijo Mart\u00edn<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cell Therapy and Transplantation &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/ibsal.portalinvestigacion.com\/investigadores\/605\"> Dr. Luc\u00eda L\u00f3pez Corral<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>The intervention is financed by competitive calls obtained by these groups, as well as by entities such as the <strong>Asociaci\u00f3n Contra la Leucemia y Enfermedades de la Sangre (ASCOL) of Salamanca <\/strong>and the <strong>Colegio Profesional de Fisioterapeutas de Castilla y Le\u00f3n.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Individualized and evidence-based care<\/strong><br\/><\/h5>\n\n<p>Patients are referred by their CAUSA oncologists and hematologists, and subsequently assessed by a team of physiotherapists from CPFCyL (Roberto M\u00e9ndez, Silvia Puente, Luis Polo, Juan Luis S\u00e1nchez and Carlos Mart\u00edn). <strong>Each person is evaluated individually<\/strong>, recording parameters such as strength, body composition, nutritional status, quality of life, sleep, anxiety and depression. This same evaluation is repeated at the end of the program, making it possible to compare results and analyze objective improvements. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>One of the innovative elements is the incorporation of<strong> analytical indicators in the follow-up<\/strong>, with the aim of studying correlations between regular exercise and the clinical evolution of the patient.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Two intervention modalities<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>The program is developed in cycles of between 8 and 12 weeks and offers two modalities of participation:<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Face-to-face<\/strong>, with sessions supervised by physiotherapists twice a week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Distance learning<\/strong>, with individualized follow-up, written materials and explanatory videos for those who cannot travel to Salamanca.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Throughout the process, constant communication is maintained with patients to resolve doubts, adapt exercises and evaluate progress.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Institutional commitment and call for new alliances<\/strong><br\/><\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p>The Colegio Profesional de Fisioterapeutas de Castilla y Le\u00f3n stresses the value of projects such as this one, both for their impact on the quality of life of people with cancer and for their pioneering nature within the public health system.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c<em>Physiotherapy brings concrete and measurable benefits to people with cancer, and projects like this one are an example of the impact it can have when applied with clinical, scientific and human criteria. For the College it is a priority to contribute to the development and consolidation of initiatives such as this one.&#8221; <\/em>says <strong>Jos\u00e9 Luis Morencia<\/strong>, president of the CPFCyL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n<p>Although the service is currently guaranteed until the end of 2025 thanks to private financing, it is hoped to be able to keep it active beyond that year.
