SUMMARY:ERA4HEALTH Partnership
DESCRIPTION:Features\nThe ERA4HEALTH partnership has published a joint transnational call \, “Prevent-OO: Understanding and Preventing Overweight and Obesity” Mechanisms of their onset and progression\, neglected determinants\, and novel strategies for critical transitional periods in life. \nThe call for proposals seeks to identify and implement innovative and holistic preventive and public health strategies to address obesity\, taking into account environmental\, psychological\, and socioeconomic factors to promote healthier lifestyles. In addition\, ERA4Health fosters transnational and interdisciplinary collaborations with a translational approach to generate new knowledge and develop effective prevention strategies. \nThe call for proposals is co-financed by the European Union and involves 25 funding organizations from 20 countries\, with a total estimated budget of more than 18 million euros. \nIn addition\, the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII) is participating in this call for proposals as the national funding agency. \nRequirements\nApplications must cover only one of the two topics listed below and address at least one of the two specified subtopics (subtopic 1a and/or 1b for topic 1\, and subtopic 2a and/or 2b for topic 2); both topics and subtopics are equally relevant for this call: \n1. Understanding the causes of obesity and overweight and their complications through mechanistic research \n1a. To investigate biological mechanisms—including chronobiological\, genetic\, and/or epigenetic mechanisms—underlying the onset and progression of overweight and obesity\, as well as related diseases. Secondary factors that may influence these biological mechanisms—such as the living environment\, lifestyle\, or psychological status—should also be considered where relevant. \n1b. To investigate how being overweight and obesity contribute to the development of related clinical complications and/or affect the mechanism of action of treatments for other diseases or disorders. \n2. Prevention and public health strategies for critical transitional periods of life. Both subtopics 2a. and 2b. should address critical transitional periods of life only. The choice of the critical transitional periods of life to be studied must be clearly justified in the proposal. These periods should result from biological changes (e.g.\, postpartum\, menopause\, andropause) or socio-environmental changes (e.g.\, the period between pregnancies\, diagnosis of a chronic disease\, recovery from illness\, retirement\, etc.). \n2a. To understand and address neglected determinants—including their interdependence—in the onset and progression of overweight and obesity during transitional periods of life. \n2b. To develop novel tools or preventive strategies that can be implemented to prevent the onset and progression of overweight and obesity during transitional periods of life\, taking into account physiological\, pathophysiological\, psychological\, and behavioral influences and/or the socioeconomic status of citizens/patients. Importantly\, the proposal should include an assessment of the economic impact of the proposed tools or strategies on the healthcare system and provide recommendations to help policymakers define new regulations and guidelines to prevent overweight and obesity. \n\nSubmission deadline.\nThe following table lists the different dates: \n\n\n\nPhase\nDate\n\n\n\n\nCall Opens\nNovember 13\, 2025\n\n\nDeadline for Pre-Proposals\nJanuary 21\, 2026\, (12:00 CET)\n\n\nNotification of the Results of the Pre-Proposal\nApril 13\, 2026\n\n\nDeadline for full proposals\nJune 11\, 2026\, (12:00 CET)\n\n\nRebuttal Phase\nAugust 24\, 2026\n\n\nProjects begin\nDecember 2026–May 2027\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Integrated Services for Infectious Disease Outbreak Research\, ISIDORe—Andes Virus and ANDV-Related Hantavirus Research
DESCRIPTION:Features\nThe call for proposals titled “Andes Virus & ANDV-relevant Hantavirus Research” is part of ISIDORe II\, an initiative funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program to facilitate access to specialized research infrastructure and services for infectious diseases. \nThe main feature is that it does not provide a financial grant to the researcher or their institution. Instead\, it funds access to specialized scientific services provided by the participating infrastructures\, at no cost to the selected users. \nProposals must address the Andes virus (ANDV) or research on hantaviruses that is clearly related to it. Research on other hantaviruses without justifying that relationship falls outside the scope of this call for proposals. \nThree priority areas are established: \n\nEvaluation of treatments and non-vaccine-based prophylaxis. Evaluation and characterization of antiviral candidates\, antibodies\, and other therapeutic or preventive strategies that already have a scientific basis. \nDiagnostics\, assays\, and reference materials. Development or adaptation of assays\, evaluation of sensitivity and specificity\, analytical validation\, reagents\, controls\, and reference materials. \nModels and experimental systems. Use and characterization of models to study pathogenesis\, viral tropism\, host response\, or the evaluation of medical countermeasures. \n\n  \nServices available: \n\n\n\n\nAnalysis: RT-PCR design\, NGS sequencing\, and whole-genome sequencing of ANDV. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDrug discovery: screening of antiviral compounds\, validation of candidates\, and characterization of monoclonal antibodies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCell-based and ex vivo models: human organoids\, lung\, placenta\, and endothelial models\, and antiviral assays. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn vivo models: preclinical efficacy studies and animal models\, subject to applicable scientific and ethical requirements. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nImmunomonitoring and structural biology: cellular immunity assays\, protein production and characterization\, and advanced microscopy techniques. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegulatory and clinical support: guidance on preparing research studies and addressing ethical or regulatory issues. \n\n\n\n\nThe availability of a service in the general catalog does not guarantee that any use of that service is eligible: it must comply with the priorities and exclusions of this specific call for proposals. \n  \n  \nRequirements\nThe call for proposals is open to researchers from universities\, public research institutions\, public health organizations\, companies\, small and medium-sized enterprises\, and other organizations that conduct research. \nThe main requirements and conditions are: \n\n\n\n\nScientific scope: The proposal must address ANDV or an issue related to another hantavirus whose relevance to ANDV is clearly justified. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccess to services: You must request one or more services included in the ISIDORe II catalog. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTransnational dimension: Horizon Europe’s transnational access (TNA) rules apply. The principal investigator and the majority of users must meet the geographic access conditions with respect to the hosting facility. The location of the service is determined during the process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPriority: Preference will be given to applicants who did not receive funding in the first ISIDORe project. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nEthics and security: Applicable requirements regarding ethics\, biosafety\, bioprotection\, data protection\, and the use of services must be met. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDissemination: The results must be disseminated\, and ISIDORe’s contribution must be appropriately acknowledged. \n\n\n\n\nAt least 80% of access must benefit users from EU Member States or countries associated with Horizon Europe; up to 20% may be allocated to international users who meet the relevant conditions. \nThe call for proposals guidelines state that the following are not included: \n\n\n\n\nRoutine diagnosis and epidemiological surveillance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nClinical trials. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nManufacturing and scaling of production processes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWide-ranging screening campaigns without a specific hypothesis or need. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDevelopment of entirely new services that are not available in the current offering. \n\n\n\n\nWe are looking for a specific scientific need that can be addressed through specialized services available at the participating research infrastructures. \nHow to apply\nThe application consists of two phases: a preliminary application and a full application. It is important to review the full text of the call for proposals to verify scientific relevance and eligibility criteria. Applications are submitted through the application management system (Access Management System\, AMS). \nThis link takes you to the services catalog\, where you can view available infrastructure and services.
