SUMMARY:PINERA Program: Funding for Multicenter Research Projects
DESCRIPTION:Purpose\nThe purpose of this Call for Proposals is to award funding to research projects carried out by multidisciplinary teams to generate new knowledge on any aspect of rare diseases. \n  \nDuration and Budget\nThe project will last three years and have a budget of   700\,000 euros. \n\nApplicant Requirements\nEligible to apply for the grant awarded for the Research Project under this Call are research groups from healthcare or university institutions\, public research organizations\, or other publicly owned or public-private\, nonprofit research centers in Spain that conduct their work at multiple sites in Spain (the “Applicants”). \nApplicants must submit a jointly coordinated project for this Call for Proposals (the “Consortium”)\, in which they may collaborate with foreign research groups that will be responsible for a specific task\, but only research groups from institutions conducting their work in Spain will receive direct funding from these funds. \nOne of the Principal Investigators (“PI”) who is a member of the Consortium shall act as the Consortium’s representative and Project Coordinator (the “Scientific Coordinator”) and shall be responsible for submitting the Research Project application. The research institution to which the Scientific Coordinator belongs will be considered the “Coordinating Institution.”  \n  \nTerms and Conditions of the Grant\nThe Scientific Coordinator must submit an original\, multicenter research project that has not received prior funding.\nThe Research Project will have a duration of three years\, with an initial term of one year\, extendable annually for two additional consecutive years subject to a favorable evaluation by the Foundation’s Scientific Council. This evaluation will be conducted each year based on the progress reports that must be submitted regarding the Research Project.  \nThe total funding will be 700\,000 euros\, which will be managed by the Coordinating Entity. The funds will be disbursed as follows:\n– In the first year\, 40% of the funding (280\,000 euros) will be disbursed.\n– In the second year\, 30% of the funding (210\,000 euros) will be disbursed.\n– In the third year\, 30% of the funding (210\,000 euros) will be disbursed.  \nThe second and third annual installments will be disbursed following the Foundation’s favorable review of the annual report\, which is described in more detail below.\nThe Coordinating Entity (together with the Scientific Coordinator) will be responsible for managing all awarded funds and monitoring the research project during its implementation\, as well as for preparing the justification and submitting the progress reports and other reports detailed in this Call for Proposals. \n  \nSubmission of Applications\nThe application will be submitted by the Scientific Coordinator\, with the approval of the Coordinating Entity and the other members of the Consortium. The Scientific Coordinator will serve as the person ultimately responsible for the research project by completing an online form provided for this purpose\, which will be available on the Foundation’s website when the application period opens on March 3\, 2025. All documentation\, duly completed\, must be submitted within the application period\, which ends on September 1\, 2025.  \nThe following documents must be attached to the application in PDF format and as separate files\, following the file-naming convention specified in each case: \nDocuments from the Scientific Coordinator: \n\nPhotocopy of the Scientific Coordinator’s ID: DNI_COOR.pdf\nCurriculum Vitae of the Scientific Coordinator: CV_COOR.pdf\nDocumentation certifying the acceptance by the Research Project Coordinating Entity\, as well as by the other entities and members that would form part of the Consortium\, of the Scientific Coordinator acting on their behalf and in their name for the purposes set forth in this Call for Proposals: ACEPT_COOR.pdf\nList of general external funding received by the Scientific Coordinator (from their research group or the Coordinating Institution) other than that requested in this Call for Proposals: FINEXT_COOR.pdf\nData Protection and Consent Information Form. This document must be downloaded from the website and signed by the Scientific Coordinator and the institution to which he or she is affiliated.   GDPR_COOR.pdf\n\nResearch Project Documents: \nA project summary that includes the title\, the name of the Scientific Coordinator\, and the institution to which they are affiliated\, a 250-word summary of the project\, as well as a table listing the names of the Principal Investigators (PIs)\, the institutions to which they belong\, and the composition of the team\, along with the signatures of each of the research groups/researchers comprising the Consortium: RES_CONSORCIO.pdf \nResearch report\, no more than 30 pages long\, written in Spanish or English\, named MEMO_CONSORCIO.pdf\, and including:\n— Project background and working hypotheses.\n— Specific objectives\, work packages\, and methods.\n— A schedule that clearly details the project tasks\, specifying the research group responsible for each task.\n— Impact in the field of rare diseases.\n— A detailed budget that must include line items for personnel\, inventory items\, consumables\, technical services\, travel\, and other expenses (provided they are directly related to the research project)\, as well as a brief justification explaining the various purposes for which each line item will be used. \nDocuments from the Consortium’s Research Groups: \nEach principal investigator (PI) in the Research Groups will be assigned a sequential number starting with 2. For example\, a file would be named DNI_IP2_LastName.pdf\, followed by DNI_IP3_LastName.pdf\, and so on. The following documents must be attached for each principal investigator (PI) in the Research Groups:   \nPhotocopy of the Principal Investigator’s ID card: DNI_IP_(Last Name).pdf\nPrincipal Investigator’s resume: CV_IP_ (Last Name).pdf\nDocumentation confirming acceptance by the institution to which the Principal Investigator is affiliated and where the project will be carried out: ACEPT_IP_(Last Name).pdf\nAdditional information about the principal investigator: list of the principal investigator’s (or their research group’s) general external funding other than that requested in this call for proposals: FINEXT_IP_.pdf\nData protection and consent form. This document must be downloaded from the website and signed by the researcher and the institution to which they are affiliated: RGPD_IP_ (Last Name).pdf  \nWith regard to the budget\, under the “inventory items” category\, only the equipment directly necessary for carrying out the Project should be requested. If similar equipment is available within the organizations that make up the Consortium\, the inability to use it must be justified. In particular\, requests must not include depreciation expenses for existing equipment\, nor should they include furniture or office supplies. The costs of repairing equipment will be borne by the workplace of the respective organization where the equipment is located.    \nThe amount requested under the travel and per diem budget line item must not exceed 10\,000 euros per year.
