SUMMARY:JARED (Joint Action on Respiratory Diseases)
DESCRIPTION:Brief description of the project\nThis project aims to reduce the burden of chronic respiratory diseases (CRD) and their risk factors. \n  \nProject Objective\nThe “JARED” project is an extremely important initiative in which our institute has been appointed as the coordinator. The aim of the project is to strengthen the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases (CRD)\, particularly chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)\, across Europe. CRDs include\, among others\, asthma\, COPD\, interstitial lung diseases (ILD)\, and occupational lung diseases\, all of which represent a significant public health burden. As part of the project\, a large-scale COPD screening program will be implemented\, during which 15\,000 high-risk individuals will be examined\, with spirometry performed in approximately 4\,500 cases. Yanovsky National Institute of Phthisiology and Pulmonology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine\, SI\n\n\n\n  \nSummary of the Joint Action on Respiratory Diseases (JARED) Project\nThe Joint Action on Respiratory Diseases (JARED) project\, coordinated by the National Korányi Institute for Pulmonology (OKPI)\, is an international collaboration supported by the European Commission. In this project\, 35 institutes working in the fields of healthcare\, education\, and research from 14 countries have come together with a common goal: the effective prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases (CRD). The project focuses primarily on CRDs of the greatest public health importance\, such as asthma\, COPD\, interstitial lung diseases (ILD)\, and occupational lung diseases. However\, it also emphasizes lung conditions associated with certain infections.    \n  \nOne of the main objectives of this project is to connect member states across the EU and strengthen joint efforts to prevent\, detect\, and treat these types of diseases. Within the framework of JARED\, several innovative approaches are also being implemented\, such as digital health solutions that enable patients to better monitor and manage their own conditions\, particularly in remote or underserved regions. In addition to all of this\, the project pays special attention to disadvantaged groups\, such as ethnic minorities and rural populations\, who are often at higher risk of developing chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs).   \n  \nOther key areas of the project include promoting preventive vaccinations\, reducing smoking\, improving indoor air quality\, preventing occupational respiratory diseases\, increasing early detection of respiratory diseases\, developing multidisciplinary patient care\, and developing respiratory rehabilitation with support for self-management. One of the innovative features of JARED is that it integrates lung cancer screening and COPD early detection programs\, which make the treatment of high-risk individuals more effective.  \n  \nThe project will also implement a large-scale COPD screening program led by OKPI\, with significant participation from Hungarian partners. As part of this collaboration\, 15\,000 high-risk individuals will be screened\, of whom approximately 4\,500 will undergo spirometry testing. In addition\, a digital self-management program for post-COPD care will be tested with the participation of 300 patients\, and OKPI plays a prominent role in its development.   \n  \nBeing appointed coordinator is of paramount importance to us because it positions our country and our institute as the central coordinating body for a healthcare project at the European level\, which allows us to provide professional guidance and directly influence the European strategy for the treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases. This will not only enhance our institute’s international recognition but also give us direct access to the latest scientific advances and innovations\, which can help improve the quality of patient care in Hungary.  \n  \nTo summarize all of the above\, JARED aims to significantly reduce the burden of respiratory diseases in Europe\, improve early detection\, and support patient self-treatment\, especially among the most vulnerable social groups. The project also fosters large-scale collaboration among EU member states.
