SUMMARY:CRIS Program for Excellence - CRIS Foundation Against Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Call for Proposals Summary\nThe CRIS Excellence Program 2026 is an initiative of the CRIS Foundation Against Cancer aimed at attracting\, bringing back\, and retaining top-tier research talent in oncology in Spain. \nThe program is designed to support independent researchers with an outstanding track record by helping them establish or strengthen their own research groups at Spanish institutions. \nPriority is given to translational cancer research projects with clear potential for clinical impact and the capacity to generate significant advances in the diagnosis\, treatment\, or understanding of the disease. \nIn addition\, the call for proposals aims to strengthen the competitiveness of the Spanish scientific system by promoting the recruitment of international talent and the return of researchers who are pursuing their careers abroad. \n\n  \nRequirements\nThe main eligibility criteria are: \nApplicant Profile: \n— Researchers or physician-researchers of any nationality. \n— They must lead or be capable of leading an independent research group. \n— A solid academic background\, with relevant publications and valued international experience. \nEducation and Experience: \n— Hold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent). \n— Having achieved research independence within the last: \n— 10 years\, extendable to 13 years for women. \n— Additional extensions of the eligibility period may be granted for justified reasons (maternity\, paternity\, illness\, etc.). \nReceiving center: \n— The project must be carried out at a research institution in Spain. \n— The center must commit to providing the appropriate environment (infrastructure\, institutional integration\, etc.). \nOther relevant aspects: \n— International experience will be viewed favorably. \n— A significant level of commitment to the funded project is expected. \n— The candidate must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to secure competitive funding. \n  \nDuration and Funding\nProjects will have a maximum duration of five years\, with the possibility of a free extension of up to twelve months. Funding is granted for an initial period of three years and may be renewed for two additional years\, provided that a favorable midterm evaluation is conducted after the second year. \nThe maximum grant will be €400\,000\, distributed in annual installments of up to €80\,000. \n  \nEligibility Criteria\n\n\n\n\nThe main eligibility criteria are: \n\nApplicant Profile:\n\nResearchers or physician-researchers of any nationality.\nThey must lead or be capable of leading an independent research group.\nA solid academic background\, with relevant publications and highly regarded international experience.\n\n\nEducation and Experience:\n\nHold a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent).\nTo have achieved research independence within the last:\n\n10 years\, extendable to 13 years for women.\n\n\nAdditional extensions of the eligibility period may be granted for justified reasons (maternity\, paternity\, illness\, etc.).\n\n\nReceiving center:\n\nThe project must be carried out at a research institution in Spain.\nThe center must commit to providing the appropriate environment (infrastructure\, institutional integration\, etc.).\n\n\nOther relevant aspects:\n\nInternational experience will be viewed favorably.\nSignificant dedication to the funded project is expected.\nThe candidate must demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to secure competitive funding.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nApplication\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe application process is competitive and takes place entirely online: \nIntroduction: \n— Through the CRIS Foundation’s online platform. \n— The application must be submitted by the principal investigator. \nRequired documentation: \n— Completed application form. \n— The candidate’s resume (including relevant scientific achievements). \n— Scientific project proposal\, detailing the objectives\, methodology\, expected impact\, and work plan. \n— A letter of support from the host institution\, guaranteeing the researcher’s integration. \n— In some cases\, a letter from a mentor or additional institutional support. \n— Supporting documentation (doctorate\, work experience\, etc.). \nEvaluation process: \n— Scientific evaluation by international experts. \n— Review of: \n\nThe candidate’s excellence.\nProject quality and feasibility.\nPotential for clinical and scientific impact.\nAdaptation of the institutional environment.\nPossible interview phase for final candidates.\n\n  \nPROGRAM GUIDELINES
