SUMMARY:AES 2026 - Contracts to Strengthen Research Activities in the National Health System (SNS) 2026
DESCRIPTION:Purpose\nThe purpose of this initiative is to hire medical specialists\, as well as individuals with university diplomas or degrees in nursing\, dentistry\, or physical therapy\, at publicly owned facilities to perform part of the clinical and patient care duties of professionals who are simultaneously engaged in research activities. \nThe purpose of this initiative is to: \n\nTo build a critical mass of healthcare professionals who also engage in research in order to translate knowledge to patients and to generate research hypotheses based on clinical practice.\nEncourage National Health System (SNS) healthcare staff to participate in research activities.\nPromote patient- and population-oriented research.\n\nThe grants awarded will be used to fund employment contracts—under any type of contract in accordance with current regulations—signed between the selected individual and the entity. An extension may be requested for a period of one or two years\, depending on the number of years remaining for the implementation of the active project underlying the application. These grants will enable employment in 2027 and\, if applicable\, in 2028\, for a duration equivalent to the release of 50% of the annual care workload of the staff whom the candidate will replace.   \n  \nRequirements\nRequirements for applicants: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPublic healthcare entities and institutions providing clinical care: hospitals\, primary care centers\, and other healthcare facilities not included in the preceding categories that hold a healthcare operating license issued by the competent authority. \n\nCandidate requirements:\n\nProfessionals working in patient care who meet the following criteria are eligible for this program: \n\nPrincipal investigators of health research projects\, health R&D&I projects\, health technology development projects\, independent clinical research projects\, and international joint programming or international collaboration projects awarded through the AES’s 2024 or 2025 calls for proposals.\nScientists at their respective institutions who are responsible for developing projects to be directly funded by the European R&D&I program\, Horizon Europe.\n\nIn all cases\, the project must be underway in 2025 as well as in 2026 or 2027\, as applicable. \nIn the case of projects with two principal investigators\, only one of them may apply for funding enhancement. \nThose who have been awarded an intensification contract under the AES 2024 or 2025 programs are not eligible for this initiative. \nCandidates must fall into one of the following categories: \n\nResearchers born in 1981 or later (at least 20% of the grants will be awarded in this category).\nResearchers born before 1981.\n\n  \n\n\nApplication\nApplications and all other required documentation must be submitted exclusively through the  ISCIII’s online portal. \nApplications must be submitted through electronic certificate systems. The application forms will require only the signature of the legal representative of the applicant entity\, who will collect the signatures of the other interested parties and be responsible for their safekeeping and authenticity.  \nApplications must be accompanied by the following documentation: \nThe following are an integral part of the application: \n\nAbridged Curriculum Vitae (CVA) in Spanish or English\, automatically generated by the FECYT resume editor for the candidate.\nProposal report\, in Spanish or English\, using the standard template for AES 2026.\n\nIn addition\, the applications must be accompanied by (documentation that can be corrected): \n\nProof of status as the principal investigator of a European project or work package (WP)\, including the acronym and reference to the grant agreement number\, signed by the coordinator of the relevant consortium or the funding agency.\nFull text of the selected publications\, unless they are open access.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nCall for Applications Guidelines\nThe complete terms and conditions of the call for applications can be viewed by clicking  here. \n
