SUMMARY:23rd Call for Applications for Grants for Medical Research Projects 2026 - Mutua Madrileña Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Abstract and Objective\nThe Mutua Madrileña Foundation is announcing the 23rd edition of its Medical Research Grants program\, with a total budget of €2\,300\,000\, in order to continue supporting clinical research projects in the following five areas:“Oncology\, ” focused on breast cancer; “Transplants\, ” focused on organ donation and preservation\, graft immunotolerance\, and bioartificial organs; “Traumatology and its sequelae\, ” including both traumatic and neurological conditions; “Rare Diseases\, ” limited to those that manifest clinically during childhood; and “Mental Health\, ” focused on the prevention and treatment of suicide and other related behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. \nIn line with previous calls for proposals\, the Mutua Madrileña Foundation aims to continue highlighting clinical research of the highest quality and\, to that end\, maintains its support for projects carried out at accredited Health Research Institutes (IIS). \n  \nResearch Areas\nThrough this 23rd Call for Proposals\, grants will be awarded to teams of researchers with proven experience working in the following research areas: \n\nOncology\, with a focus on breast cancer.\nTransplantation\, focusing on organ donation and preservation\, graft immunotolerance\, and bioartificial organs.\nTraumatology and related sequelae\, including neurological sequelae resulting from trauma.\nRare diseases\, limited to those that manifest in childhood.\nMental health\, with a focus on the prevention and treatment of suicide and other related behavioral disorders among children and adolescents.\n\nProjects submitted in response to this call for proposals must be exclusively clinical research projects conducted at accredited Health Research Institutes (IIS). \n  \nTypes of Projects and Applicant Organizations\nProjects must be submitted by accredited Health Research Institutes (IIS). \nThe Mutua Madrileña Foundation aims to continue promoting collaborative research\, and to that end\, we are maintaining a special grant category to encourage collaboration in medical research among autonomous communities. Accredited Health Research Institutes (IIS) belonging to at least four different autonomous communities may participate in any of the five research areas covered by the general call for proposals.  \nFurthermore\, as part of this call for proposals\, the Mutua Madrileña Foundation will allocate up to a total of two hundred thousand euros to fund clinical research projects on any topic conducted by physicians who are part of Adeslas’s staff and who work at any private medical institution\, however\, projects submitted and led by physicians on the Adeslas staff that are to be carried out at public centers affiliated with an accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) will not be accepted. In the case of private hospital groups with multiple centers\, only one research project per hospital group will be funded.  \n  \n\nFunding\n\nThe maximum amount that can be requested per project submitted by accredited Health Research Institutes (IIS) may not exceed one hundred fifty thousand euros.\nFor network projects involving autonomous communities\, the maximum total amount that can be requested is three hundred thousand euros.\nA total of up to two hundred thousand euros will be allocated to Adeslas’s special financing program for doctors .\n\n  \nDocuments Required for Submitting Applications\nApplications to participate in this call for proposals must be submitted exclusively online through the Mutua Madrileña Foundation website (www.fundacionmutua.es\, under the “Research Grants” section)\, where you will find detailed instructions on how to apply and the application forms that must be used. \nResearchers will present the project\, which has been written in Spanish. \nAll applications must be accompanied by the following documents: \n\nProject report in accordance with the application form provided on the Mutua Madrileña Foundation’s website.\n\n\nResumes for each member of the research team\, prepared according to the template provided on the aforementioned website.\nA copy of the terms and conditions of this call for proposals\, bearing the signatures of the principal investigator and the research director\, if applicable\, or by the head of the accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) where the project will be carried out\, in accordance with the template provided on the Mutua Madrileña Foundation’s website.\n\n\nA letter signed by the heads of the research group and the institution certifying that the principal investigator listed on the grant application is the person who will actually lead the project.\nReport from the Ethics and Clinical Trials Committee / Drug Research Ethics Committee (CEIm) of the institution where the project will be conducted. This report must include the project title\, which must match the one submitted in response to the call for proposals\, and must also identify the principal investigator responsible for the project. \nIf the project requires the use of laboratory animals\, it will be necessary to submit approval from the IIS Animal Welfare Ethics Committee in accordance with Royal Decree 53/2013 of February 1\, which establishes the basic rules applicable to the protection of animals used in experimentation and other scientific purposes. The report from the Animal Welfare Ethics Committee must include a justification of the need to use laboratory animals for the project and a statement that no alternative options are available. This report or authorization must include the project title\, which must match the one submitted in response to the call for proposals\, and must also identify the researcher responsible for the project.  \nExternal Communication Document.\nA photocopy of the principal investigator’s NIF (tax identification number).\nA photocopy of the tax identification number (NIF ) of the accredited Health Research Institute (IIS) that will manage the project.\nA certificate issued by Adeslas confirming membership in its network of healthcare providers. This certificate may be requested from your provincial office (only for projects submitted by specialists in the Adeslas network). \n\nAll documentation must be submitted electronically as an attachment. \n  \nDeadlines\nThe grants are intended for research projects lasting a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years. \nThe application period will run from 9:00 a.m. (mainland Spain time) on Monday\, February 2\, 2026\, until 1:00 p.m. (mainland Spain time) on Wednesday\, March 4\, 2026.   \nOnly applications submitted online using the forms currently available on the Fundación Mutua Madrileña website will be accepted. \nAll selected projects must submit all documentation—both necessary and required by the Mutua Madrileña Foundation—by the deadline indicated above\, and must begin before December 1\, 2026.
